Overview
When Lord Curzon was Viceroy of India, he undertook several treks in the Garhwal, including one over the Kuari Pass to Joshimath and since then it has come to be known as Curzon's trail. It is very popular among European and American travellers. In 1905, Lord Curzon reached Kuari Pass from Ghat via Ramni. Today many trekkers prefer to undertake the trek in the reverse direction. The main attraction of Curzon's trail is the majestic view of the Twin Peaks of Nanda Devi--the main summit (7816 m), which is the highest peak situated completely within India and the east summit (7434 m) of Nanda Devi, Kamet (7756 m), Dronagiri (7066 m) and Hathi Parbat (6727 m) and Ghori Parvat (6708 m). Along the trek we'll pass through pristine Rhododendron, Oak and Deodar forests. Rare Himalayan flora and fauna found in abundance on the Curzon's trail.
As the Curzon Trail takes you through lush green fields, remote villages and virgin forests. Providing an enchanting view of the imposing peaks of Nanda Devi , Kamet ,Chaukhamba, Dronagiri and Hathi-Ghodi Parvat,It takes you through lush green fields, remote villages and virgin forests. The arms length view of ranges like the Mt.Nanda Devi, Kamet , Dronagiri and Hathi-Ghodi Parvat, is the reward that awaits the trekker atop this pass. When Lord Curzon trekked this route he started from Ramni to reach Kauri pass. We shall be trailing the same path as did Curzon, but in the reverse direction, starting from Ramni and then climbing the pass. The maximum height reached during the course of trekking is 4268 mts and the trek is generally not very difficult.

From here we walk over Ali Bugyal enjoying the view of Himalayan peaks till we reach Bedni Bugyal, which is another meadow on this route. Bugyal means meadow in Garhwali dialect. From Bedni Bugyal we can have a view of Mt. Nanda Ghunti, Trishul massif and also peaks on the north of Garwhal. We continue our trek to Pathar Nachuni where we stay in tents for night.
DAY 06: PATHAR NACHUNI - BHAGUABASA (4267 M) - ROOP KUND (4800 M) -PATHAR NACHUNI (3658 M) 8-9 HRS TREK: Today’s trek is steep and strenuous. During the post monsoon months the valley remains full of fragrance of Saussurea Obvallata flower, locally known as Brahmkamal. This flower acquires special importance to make offerings to Gods, especially to Lord Shiva and is found only in certain places in high altitudes. After touching the flower by hand, the smell lasts for hours. We further trek and arrive Roopkund where 500 - 600 years old human skeletons are found. There are several beliefs about the mystic presence of these skeletons. Some say refugees fleeing from prosecution of Tuglak's army under General Zorawar Singh died here on the way. Others believe traders from Tibet might have died in a natural calamity. Yet another belief is that King of Kannauj was on his way with his wife undertaking a pilgrimage of Goddess Nanda Devi 560 years ago. The Queen delivered a child on the way. This made the Goddess Nanda Devi angry by spoiling Her Holy Land. A snow storm was sent down by the Goddess killing hundreds on the trail of pilgrimage. Keeping such stories in mind, we trek further to our campsite for the overnight.
DAY 07: PATAL NACHUNI - WAN (2437M) 6-7 HRS TREK: After breakfast commence the pleasant walk on a well paved path to Wan. We make a long and steep descend into the forest till the river and then undertake a climb to reach the pleasant village of Wan, near another Hindu shrine. DAY 08: WAN - KUNOL (2200 m)-SUTOL: 6-7 HRS TREK: After breakfast start the day trek to Sutal, climb gradually and later have a pleasant descent to the middle of a forest inhabited by many monkeys led to the confluence of two rivers, near the village of Kunol. A new short climb leads to the beautiful village of Sutol, where you can admire the traditional houses with tiled roofs. Overnight in camp.
DAY 09: SUTOL - DEKHANADHAR (2200M) 5-6N HRS TREK: The days’ trail ascends and descends throughout along the valley, where the walk suddenly plunge you into the river side and ascends steep switchbacks to reach a small temple. After lunch, a further walk leads to a sharp edge that gives the amazing view of Mount TRISHUL. Camp near the village of Dekhandar for the night.
DAY 10: DEKHANADHAR - RAMANI (2100M): 5-6 HRS TREK: In the village of Ala, which is on the way this day gives sights of superb sculptures adorning the portal of some houses. An initial steady climb leads to a little over 2 hours at the climax of the day to Ramani Pass (3064 m). The Kauri Pass is clearly visible in the distance from here with highly impressive views the peaks of Garwhal Himalayas. A suspension bridge is used to cross the gorge and a tough climb of more than two hours takes us to Kaliaghat where we enjoy a comfortable camp near Pana village. Overnight in tents.
DAY 12: PANA - SIARTOLI (3012M) - DHAKWANI (3341M) 6-7 HRS TREK: Another day with beautiful views is simply on cards this day. After 600 meters uphill trek we cross a pass of 3100 meters. On the opposite side is a deep gorge where the damaged paths by monsoon rains may be found in most of the months but the camp is located in the base of Kauri, is very pleasant and beautiful. Overnight in camp.
DAY 13: DHAKWANI - OVER KUARI PASS (3798M) - TALI (3310M) 5-6 HRS TREK: A final effort to pass the highest point of the circuit is waiting for us this day. In 1931, an English explorer and mountaineer, Frank Smyth, on his way to climb Kamet, which is the second highest peak in India after Nanda Devi, writes "Arriving at the pass, we remain silent surprise. No words could express our feelings. The Himalayas lay before us in a majestic arc of a circle”. Neelkanth, Chaukhamba (7141 m), Dunagiri (7067 m), Changabang (6864 m) and even Nanda Devi are visible by browsing a few hundred meters on the edge. Panorama deemed as one of the most beautiful in the entire Himalayan range. The path takes us to Tali where the view of the Mt. Nanda Devi is extremely fine during clear weather. Overnight in tents.
