Mount Menthosa (6440 Meters) is the 2nd highest summit in the Lahoul-Spiti Province of the State of Himachal Pradesh in Northern India. It was first climbed in 1970 by a British Service Team led by Capt S. Bembrose.
Route detail & general observations
situated above the ice wall which can be approached from Urgos- a small hamlet in Lahoul region. Kullu is the nearest airport where daily flights are scheduled from Delhi and 55 Kms ahead to the airport is the beautiful hill station called Manali. From Manali after crossing Rohtang La, the valley of Lahoul is approached. Udaipur is a sub division in Lahoul valley, almost 130 Kms from Manali.
From Udaipur, we take the porters for Menthosa and Mahindra Peaks out of whom few are now well experienced with the route and expedition system. Urgos is reached by vehicle and we start trekking to the base camp of Menthosa from here, which is about 12 Kms of distance.
From Camp I, through the ice wall, Camp II and III can be established to make the camp III summit camp for the peak.

(a) Below 6500 m US$ 500 for a party of two members. For additional members up to seven, US$ 200 each (i.e. total for 7 members US$ 1500). Thereafter, for each additional member US$ 250 up to a maximum limit of twelve members.
(b) 6501 to 7000 m US$ 700 for a party of two members. For additional members up to seven US$ 300 each (i.e. total for 7 members US$ 2200). Thereafter for each additional member US$ 350 up to a maximum limit of twelve members.
(c) 7001 and above US$ 1,000 for a party of two members. For additional members up to seven US$ 400 each (i.e. total for 7 members US$ 3000). Thereafter for each additional member US$ 450 upto a maximum of twelve members.
(d) For trekking peaks
(Stok Kangri, Ladakhi, Friendship, Hanuman) US$ 100 for a party of two members. For additional members up to seven US$ 50 each (i.e. total for seven members US$ 350). Thereafter for each additional member US$ 100 upto a maximum of twelve members.
For East Karakoram only joint expeditions with Indian counterparts are permitted to climb the peaks.

Day 01 Arrive Delhi Overnight Delhi hotel
Day 02 Administrative work in Delhi (Indian regulations), cargo handling if required, IMF briefing and purchasing etc. Overnight Delhi Hotel
Day 03 Train to Chandigarh (03 hours) and drive to Manali for 302 Kms covered in 8-9 hours. The train reaches Chandigarh at 10.30 and we reach Manali around 7 PM. Overnight Hotel
Day 04 Full day in Manali with visits of the beautiful tourist destination of Himachal Pradesh. Overnight Hotel Day 05 Drive to Udaipur in Lahoul Valley (145 Kms) and further toTingrit- Urgos/ 2900 M/ drive by Jeeps for 23 Kms.
The drive is beautiful through mighty Rohtang La of 13500 feet that remains under snow for about six months a year and stops people of Lahoul to enter Kullu Valley for whole winters. Other side of Rohtang means a forbidden land of Lahoul where you encounter a different culture and landscape. Reach Udaipur, a small town of Lahoul with extremely popular temples of Trilokinath and Mrikula
The drive to this small distance of Udaipur to Urgos is exciting not only with a feeling of approaching towards the base camp, but a different nature makes the journey a learning experience. This is called Miyar Valley which has a rich cultural heritage and surely your guide will be narrating a wonderful story related to this valley during this drive. Reach Urgos and we move towards the camp for the night. This will be the time to meet your cook, kitchen helper and porters and off course the trekking guide who will drop you to the base camp tomorrow. Camp
Day 06 TREK Urgos –Base Camp/ 4200 M/ The 7 km hike from Urgos to Menthosa Base Camp is a terrific hike: not too difficult, yet steep enough to be a good workout. With outstanding views of the surrounding peaks, all over 4,000 meters, off course the trek gives a lot back to mind. It is sure that in mountains the views only gets prettier as you go higher. The last 1000 meters elevation will be tough to climb but you finally reach the base camp situated at around 4200 meters.
Day 07: Acclimatizing day
Day 08: Base Camp to Camp 1 (4900 Meters) The climb from base camp is likely to be mostly through snow. You may pass through some immense ice sculptures, created by nature of course, and one glacial lake. The climb may take 4- 5 hours, even though the distance covered would be probably just 3 to 4 km. There are at least 20 other peaks visible to the naked eye, each majestic in its own right, each commanding awe and respect.
Day 09& Day 10: Establishing camp 2 (5650 Meters) – (one spare day)
Day 11 to Day 16: Establishing Camp 3 (6000 Meters) & summit attempt
From Camp 3 there could be an apparent choice of routes to be decided facing the summit cone, it would be possible to angle right and reach a northern approach to the summit.
Day 17: Trek down to camp 1 following the same route.
Day 18: Trek down to base camp following the same route.
Day 19: Trek back to Urgos and drive to Manali/ Overnight at hotel.
Day 20: Rest in Manali/ hotel. This is free day, so one can relax or plan some excursions at own.
Day 21: Manali to Chandigarh drive. Overnight Hotel
Day 22: Chandigarh to Delhi transfer, drive to IMF for de briefing and evening farewell program in Delhi. Overnight Hotel

Getting there: Your nearest international airport is Delhi where you will meet with our expedition manager. After essential visits to IMF and cargo (if required), you will be escotrted towards the initial point of your adventure as per the program details.
After the expedition/ adventure journey, you arrive back to Delhi. After de briefing (in case of expedition) and farewell ceremony, you will be driven to international airport to board flight back to your home.
Airtickets: We have our partners in almost every foreign countries, so if you need any assistance in your air tickets bookings, you are always welcome to speak to us to know about our partner close to you.
Cargo Management: We have strong tieups with the cargo management companies to get your consignments clear timely in Delhi. In maximum cases, you will only need to spend just 2 hours for getting your consignmwent delivery. Once you send the documents and the boxes details, we start locating them in India.
Insurance : It is a condition of joining our trips that you must be adequately insured. All persons are expected to arrange their own insurance. Polices should cover any potential risks involved in such adventure.
Our hotels and camps: We offer you best economy hotels in cities and towns and till base camp we provide you very comfirtable tents with maximim possible faciltiies in the mountains. For the trekking, Jeep Safaris, MTB and other adventure journeys, we provide the most luxurious camps fitted with dining areas and modren toilet facilities.
Adventure India briefing: We have excelent maps, images and movies of majoriety of our adventure expeditions/ joiurneys and sports. A short briefing in our offices is highly recommended so the team understands logistics, forecarst problems and know where the solutions would be. We stress on planning, planning and planning in any adventure expediton and till now we have remained successful in all of our expeditions just because of our planning. So we need you to be an active part of it.
Rescue and helicopter evacuation: if the expeditons are well planned, rescue operations can be avoided. In the history of 14 years, we didn’t encounter any seviour requireemtn of rescue but still we can tie up with the agencies to provide helicopter evacuation on your request and willingness to pay the charges.
Peak booking formalities: already mentioned in detail in our mountaineering formalities in India link. For necessary applications either you can check the website of IMF or speak to us.
Ground transportation: We provide the ground transportation compriseing of best available cars/ copaches in fine roads and rough trucks in remote areas of the Indian mountains.
Porters and ponies: We provide ponies till base camp and HAP/ LAPs as per the requirement of the expedition.
Fuel and gases: Fuel (aftwer BC) is not a part of cost included section, but we will manage Butane / Butane propane gases for you on your timely request.
Trek & BC food : We offer a mixture of Vegetarian and Non vegetarian food till BC including the several herbs we have individually discovered with the medicinal values and capacity to keep the body warm. We have cooks who make Korean, Japnese and Continental food along with Indian food.
Our guides & instructors: Our guides are basically trained till BC trekking and support to establish BC. But our instructors do have good experience of mountaineering who can join the expeditions to higher levels too.
Ground Support system: We have fantastic ground support system developed in collaboration with the local people of nearest villages, army camps, porters and local guides. We have re discovered the use of traditional communication system also along with the setellite phones to stay in touch with the groups after BC. Our BC staff is trained to keep information of the groups at ABC and between and act as per the situation.
