This exclusive journey combines shortly Ladakh- Kargil and Kashmir. After exploring Ladakh, it takes you to the memories of Kargil War of 1999 between India and China while driving under the hills which have witnessed fires few years back and places like Drass, apart from a charming beauty of Kargil, a sensation of thrill also moves deep in veins.
Kargil lies near the line of control facing Gilgit- Baltistan to the west, and Kashmir Valley to the south. Zanskar is part of Kargil district along with Suru, Wakha and Drass valleys.
Before the partition of India in 1947, Kargil was part of the Baltistan district of Ladakh, a sparsely populated region with diverse linguistic, ethnic and religious groups, living in isolated valleys separated by some of the world's highest mountains. The area that witnessed the infiltration and fighting is a 160 Kms long stretch of ridges overlooking this only road linking Srinagar and Leh. Apart from the district capital, Kargil, the populated areas near the front line in the conflict included the Mushko Valley and the town of Drass, southwest of Kargil, as well as the Batalik sector and other areas, northeast of Kargil.
There is no need to write anything about Srinagar but just few words, that “it is the most beautiful place on the earth”. It is situated in the Kashmir Valley and lies on the banks of the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus. The city is famous for its gardens, lakes and houseboats. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri handicraft and dry fruits.
