The courtyard of Hemis Gompa-the biggest Buddhist monastery in Ladakh is the stage for the famous 'Hemis' festival that celebrates the birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava. The colorful two-day pageant falls on the 10th day (Tse-Chu) of the Tibetan lunar month. The local people are seen dressed up in their finest traditional garb for the occasion. Lamas called 'chhams' perform splendid masked dances and sacred plays to the accompaniment of cymbals, drums and long horns. The head lama presides over the function. The festival takes an auspicious turn every 12 years in the Tibetan Year of the Monkey, when the two-storey high 'Thangka' depicting Padmasambhava is displayed. A colorful fair, displaying some beautiful handicrafts, is the special highlight of the festival. Hemis was built in 1630 during the reign of Sengge Namgyal, an illustrious ruler of Ladakh. How to book a tour
You can send the required deposit (booking amount) anytime 30 days prior to the commencement of tours. Balance of the amount will be collected within 15 days of the departure date.
For the last minute bookings, the rates will be separately negotiated as per the calendar of Last Minute Adventure Plan mentioned in our website.
The tour strength is flexible from 02 persons to 14 and above. For single traveler, wherever the cost is not mentioned, you are requested to discuss either on email or phone.
We don’t give guarantee of any departure because in mountains circumstances may change at any hour. But we will refund full amount in case of any cancellation. Only the very nominal bank transfer fees will be deduced.
July 05: Arrive Delhi, on arrival you will be received by our office representative and escort you to hotel.
July 06: Delhi – Leh flight – morning flight to Leh and on arrival you will be received by our representative who will further drive you to your hotel. Few hours to relax after having breakfast in the hotel and in the afternoon you will meet your tour manager who will brief you about the schedule of the itinerary. Later drive to Shey Monastery which is again perched on a hillock is worshiped and cherished by Buddhists from every part of the country. The monastery can be reached by just 15 minutes drive for Leh town. Foundation Shey Gompa was built by King Deldon Namgyal in the memory his late father, Singay Namgyal. The monastery served as a royal residence for the kings of Ladakh. Enjoy the splendid beauty of mighty Himalayas here. July 07: Sightseeing of Leh including Hemis Festival Visit including the important monasteries with initial visit to Hemis Festival. This morning we drive west to visit the Shanti Stupa, inaugurated in 1983 by H.H. The Dalai Lama, the peace Pagoda, whose sides are decorated with gilt panels depicting episodes from the life of Buddha, is one of the several monuments erected around India by peace sect of Japanese Buddhists. Following that, you are driven to Sankar Monastery nestled amid the shimmering coppices & terraced fields of Barley. Sankar Monastery contains a formidable collection of miniature statues of pure gold and ancient Thangka Paintings. Later we visit to Hemis to witness the monastic festival. (Hotel in Leh)
July 08: Fell day at Hemisfestival with visit to Thiksey Monastery-
Morning we visit Thiksey Monastery, located on a hilltop with formidable views of the Indus valley and try to attend the prayers. Later we drive back to Hemis Gompa for its festival celebrations. (Hotel in Leh)
July 09: Leh to Nubra Valley drive. After Breakfast drive to Nubra Valley via Khardungla which has the owner of being highest motorable road in the World, situated at 18,380 ft. Enroute drive past the capital Diskit. Drive another 9 Kms further and arrive at the small village of Hunder (3,048 Mt). Off course a visit to Diskit Monastery is in the plan. Buddhist monasteries flourished in the valley among which is the famous Diskit Gompa. This monastery is over 350 years old, is the oldest in the Nubra region. It is also one of the largest. The monastery belongs to the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) Sect.Nubra Valley, at an average elevation of 3500 M is sand-witched between the Zanskar Range on its South and the Ladakh Range on its North. This is the geographical backbone, and the historical heartland of Ladakh. The Nubra is a tributary of the Shyok River which flows parallel to the Indus on the northern side of the Ladakh range. Because of its lower altitude the valley has a mild climate and is therefore richer in vegetation. It is often referred to as the "Orchard of Ladakh". In ancient times, the valley was part of the Caravan Route, today it offers unparalleled trekking opportunities and scenic landscapes. It is also the natural habitat of the double backed Bactrian camel. Overnight stay in fixed camp.
July 10: Nubra valley to Leh back
July 11: Leh to Lamayuru drive and night at Uletopko- morning we start early to Lamayuru, on arrival, we visit the Lamayuru Monastery ,which is one of the largest and oldest Gompas in Ladakh, with a population of around 150 permanent monks resident. It has, in the past, housed up to 400 monks, many of which are now based in Gompas in surrounding villages. Lamayuru is host to two annual masked dance festivals, in the second and fifth months of the Tibetan lunar calendar, when all the monks from these surrounding Gompas gather together to pray. After spending enough time here, we drive back to Uletopko for the overnight stay.
July 12: Uletopko to Leh with a visit to ALCHI Monastery and LIKIRMonastery.
July 13: Fly to Delhi, you will be transferred to your hotel with day rooms and later to the international airport to fly home.
Getting there: Your nearest international airport is Delhi where you will meet with our expedition manager. After essential visits to IMF and cargo (if required), you will be escotrted towards the initial point of your adventure as per the program details.
After the expedition/ adventure journey, you arrive back to Delhi. After de briefing (in case of expedition) and farewell ceremony, you will be driven to international airport to board flight back to your home.
Airtickets: We have our partners in almost every foreign countries, so if you need any assistance in your air tickets bookings, you are always welcome to speak to us to know about our partner close to you.
Cargo Management: We have strong tieups with the cargo management companies to get your consignments clear timely in Delhi. In maximum cases, you will only need to spend just 2 hours for getting your consignmwent delivery. Once you send the documents and the boxes details, we start locating them in India.
Insurance : It is a condition of joining our trips that you must be adequately insured. All persons are expected to arrange their own insurance. Polices should cover any potential risks involved in such adventure.
Our hotels and camps: We offer you best economy hotels in cities and towns and till base camp we provide you very comfirtable tents with maximim possible faciltiies in the mountains. For the trekking, Jeep Safaris, MTB and other adventure journeys, we provide the most luxurious camps fitted with dining areas and modren toilet facilities.
Adventure India briefing: We have excelent maps, images and movies of majoriety of our adventure expeditions/ joiurneys and sports. A short briefing in our offices is highly recommended so the team understands logistics, forecarst problems and know where the solutions would be. We stress on planning, planning and planning in any adventure expediton and till now we have remained successful in all of our expeditions just because of our planning. So we need you to be an active part of it.
Rescue and helicopter evacuation: if the expeditons are well planned, rescue operations can be avoided. In the history of 14 years, we didn’t encounter any seviour requireemtn of rescue but still we can tie up with the agencies to provide helicopter evacuation on your request and willingness to pay the charges.
Peak booking formalities: already mentioned in detail in our mountaineering formalities in India link. For necessary applications either you can check the website of IMF or speak to us.
Ground transportation: We provide the ground transportation compriseing of best available cars/ copaches in fine roads and rough trucks in remote areas of the Indian mountains.
Porters and ponies: We provide ponies till base camp and HAP/ LAPs as per the requirement of the expedition.
Fuel and gases: Fuel (aftwer BC) is not a part of cost included section, but we will manage Butane / Butane propane gases for you on your timely request.
Trek & BC food : We offer a mixture of Vegetarian and Non vegetarian food till BC including the several herbs we have individually discovered with the medicinal values and capacity to keep the body warm. We have cooks who make Korean, Japnese and Continental food along with Indian food.
Our guides & instructors: Our guides are basically trained till BC trekking and support to establish BC. But our instructors do have good experience of mountaineering who can join the expeditions to higher levels too.
Ground Support system: We have fantastic ground support system developed in collaboration with the local people of nearest villages, army camps, porters and local guides. We have re discovered the use of traditional communication system also along with the setellite phones to stay in touch with the groups after BC. Our BC staff is trained to keep information of the groups at ABC and between and act as per the situation.
Cost Includes & not: The cost includes all hotels, guest houses, camps till BC, food till BC, ponies, porters, LAP/ HAP, food & tents for the porters, cooks and staff at BC, insurance of our permanenet staff, food for LO, cargo management, all transportation, all sightseeing, liasioning and coordination, trekking guides and BC management.
