According to Hindu mythologies and myths, Char Dham signifies the journey to the salvation and a divine life after that. Char Dham can be split into Char that means four and Dham meaning pilgrimages. These four pilgrimage destinations are Gangotri the source of ancient river Ganges, Yamunotri the source of another sacred river Yamuna, Sri Kedarnath and Sri Badrinath. These four places are considered to be the door to the spirituality and eternity. These four pilgrimages are placed at Himalayan (Garwhal) region in Uttrakhand India.
Route and general observations The journey starts from Haridwar, the most sacred place for Hindus and then moves up to Barkot, Yamunotri, Harsil, Gangotri and Uttarkashi. From here we continue driving to Gaurikund which is close to Guptakashi and from here we trek to Kedarnath. This way we offer an opportunity to walk in the Himalaya too. Later we drive to Badrinath and finally reach Rishikesh- the yoga center of world.
Char Dham tours is about the four holy rivers also namely Yamuna (Yamunotri), Ganges (Gangotri), Mandakini (Kedarnath) and Alaknanda (Badrinath).
It is an ultimate desire in a Hindu to go on this tour once in his life time but it is equally fascinating and interesting for anyone of other religions too. The ancient temples, four great rivers and the wonderful Himalayan landscape make this journey incredible.
