Mt. Satopant Expedition

Mt. Satopant Expedition

25 Days

Mt. Satopant holds a mix of Hindu mythology and modern mountaineering history. The literary meaning of this Hindi word Satopant is “path of truth”. The first attempt to this peak was made by an Austrian team led by R. Schwarzgruber in 1938, but it remained unsuccessful. The first successful ascent was recorded to a Swiss Expedition led by Andre Roch in 1947; the year India got its independence.

Adventure India has organized several expeditions of Mt. Satopant but for us an Austrian expedition becomes unforgettable, led by Starchel Helmut in year 2014. The team had a member with disability, for whom PM Modi had coined a wonderful term, Divyang – the person with divine limbs. We dedicate this page to Posch Manfred, who had a great will power, strong commitment for climbing and long experience of holding the ropes as tight any other seasoned climber.

Satopant Peak is a perfect balance of beauty and technical challenge which offers a classic Himalayan climb, steep ice faces, long snow ridges, and crevassed glaciers. It is challenging and making it perfect for climbers preparing for 8,000 M peaks. Its Legendary knife-edge summit ridge makes it remarkably different, where the final ridge leading to the summit is a sharp, thrilling knife-edge with steep drops on both sides.

We pay our regards to Jordi Corominas, a highly respected mountaineer from Spain and Yuri & Andrey from Russia and all other mountaineers who climbed this peak with us over the last more than 20 years.
