This morning, board your flight from Delhi to Bagdogra. Weather permitting, the journey offers magnificent views of the Himalayan range, including some of the region’s most celebrated peaks including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and the majestic Kangchenjunga. Upon arrival, meet your local representative and drive through the lush tea gardens of the Darjeeling foothills to Kurseong, a charming hill town perched along the historic route to Darjeeling.
From Kurseong, enjoy a memorable ride on the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, affectionately known as the “Toy Train.” This narrow-gauge railway, built by the British in the late 19th century, winds through picturesque mountain scenery, bustling bazaars, tea estates, and quaint settlements, offering a glimpse into a bygone era of Himalayan travel.
Arrive in Darjeeling (2,134m), one of India’s most celebrated hill stations. Established during the British colonial period as a summer retreat, the town retains much of its old-world charm, with elegant colonial architecture, panoramic mountain views, and a vibrant blend of Himalayan cultures. On arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to explore this enchanting town.

Perched along a forested ridge at an altitude of approximately 2,100 metres, Darjeeling commands magnificent views of the Eastern Himalayas, dominated by the majestic Kanchenjunga (8,586m), the world's third-highest mountain. Before dawn, we drive about 11 km to Tiger Hill (2,590m), one of the finest viewpoints in the region, to witness a spectacular Himalayan sunrise. As the first rays of sunlight illuminate Kanchenjunga and the surrounding peaks, the snow-clad summits glow in shades of gold, pink, and crimson, creating one of the most memorable mountain panoramas in India.
On the return journey, visit the historic Ghoom Monastery (Yiga Choeling Monastery), established in 1850 and renowned for its impressive 15-foot statue of Maitreya Buddha, the Buddha of the Future. Return to the hotel for breakfast before setting out to explore Darjeeling's cultural and mountaineering heritage.
Visits include the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre, established in 1959 to preserve traditional Tibetan crafts and culture, and the renowned Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), founded in 1954 in honour of the first successful ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary. We also visit one of Darjeeling's famed tea estates, where the region's internationally acclaimed teas have been cultivated since the mid-19th century.
Later, explore Darjeeling's vibrant bazaars and colonial-era streets, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of the region, shaped by Nepali, Tibetan, Bhutia, Lepcha, Bengali, and Sherpa communities. In the evening, stroll along the Mall Road and Chaurasta, the social heart of the town, lined with cafés, shops, and viewpoints. A short walk leads to Observatory Hill, one of Darjeeling's most sacred sites, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists and closely associated with the origins of the town itself. Return to the hotel for overnight stay.

After breakfast, depart Darjeeling and drive through the scenic Himalayan foothills into the state of Sikkim. The journey offers beautiful views of forested hills, terraced fields, mountain villages, and the Teesta River, whose emerald waters accompany much of the route.
Before reaching Gangtok, visit the renowned Rumtek Monastery (Rumtek Dharma Chakra Centre), the principal seat-in-exile of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism outside Tibet. Perched on a hill overlooking the surrounding valleys, the monastery was established under the guidance of His Holiness the Sixteenth Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, and is one of the most important Buddhist centres in the Himalayas. The complex houses numerous sacred relics, exquisite murals, rare manuscripts, and the magnificent Golden Stupa containing the relics of the Sixteenth Karmapa.
Following your visit, continue to Gangtok, the attractive capital of Sikkim, beautifully situated along a ridge overlooking the eastern Himalayas. On arrival, check in to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to relax or explore the town's lively streets, cafés, and markets.

Today we explore some of Gangtok’s most important cultural and spiritual landmarks. Our first visit is to the revered Do Drul Chorten, one of Sikkim’s most significant stupas. Built in 1945 by Trulshik Rinpoche, head of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism, the stupa is crowned with a golden spire and surrounded by 108 prayer wheels.
We then visit the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, established to preserve and promote Sikkim’s rich artistic traditions. The centre showcases handwoven carpets, traditional Lepcha textiles, shawls, wood carvings, masks, and the beautifully crafted choktse tables for which the region is renowned.
Next is the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, founded in 1958 under the patronage of the Chogyal of Sikkim. Considered one of the world’s foremost centres for Tibetan studies, it houses an exceptional collection of Buddhist manuscripts, rare books, thangkas, statues, and religious artefacts, along with a library containing over 30,000 volumes on Buddhism, philosophy, medicine, astrology, and Tibetan culture.
If time permits, we also visit Enchey Monastery, a serene monastery originally established in the 19th century and rebuilt in its present form in 1909. Other notable sites in and around Gangtok include the Flower Exhibition Centre (Orchid and Floral Sanctuary), Tsuklakhang Monastery (Royal Chapel), and Tashi View Point, offering magnificent views of the Kanchenjunga range.

After breakfast, drive to Yuksam, a historic village nestled amidst forested hills in West Sikkim and renowned as the first capital of the erstwhile Kingdom of Sikkim. Situated on the edge of the UNESCO-listed Khangchendzonga National Park, Yuksam serves as the gateway to some of the Himalayas’ most celebrated trekking routes, including Dzongri and the Kanchenjunga Base Camp.
Upon arrival, visit the Norbugang Coronation Throne, where three revered lamas consecrated Phuntsog Namgyal as the first Chogyal (king) of Sikkim in 1642, marking the foundation of the Sikkimese kingdom. Continue to the nearby Ani Gompa, a peaceful Buddhist nunnery set amidst tranquil surroundings.
Known as the “Meeting Place of Three Lamas,” Yuksam is steeped in history, spirituality, and natural beauty. Surrounded by verdant forests, cascading streams, and magnificent mountain landscapes, the village offers a fascinating introduction to Sikkim’s cultural heritage and rich biodiversity.
The evening is free to explore the village at leisure and soak in its serene Himalayan atmosphere.

Today we begin our trek into the magnificent wilderness of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Khangchendzonga National Park. After breakfast, our expedition staff, along with porters and pack animals, prepare and transport the group's equipment and supplies for the journey ahead. As the first day on the trail is relatively long, a packed lunch is carried for the trek.
The trail ascends gradually through dense temperate forests of oak, magnolia, chestnut, and rhododendron, often draped in mist and alive with birdsong. After several hours of walking, we cross the roaring Prek Chu River and continue the steeper ascent through beautiful forests, waterfalls, and hanging bridges, offering glimpses of the region's remarkable biodiversity.
By late afternoon, we arrive at Tshoka, a picturesque mountain settlement at about 3,000 metres. Originally established by Tibetan settlers and yak herders, Tshoka offers splendid views of the surrounding forests and peaks. After settling into camp, there is time to relax and enjoy the peaceful Himalayan surroundings before dinner.

After an early breakfast, we continue our ascent towards Dzongri, one of the finest high-altitude viewpoints in the Eastern Himalayas. The trail climbs steadily through enchanting forests of rhododendron, fir, and hemlock before reaching the open clearing of Phedang, a traditional resting point along the route. As we gain altitude, the forest gradually thins and gives way to alpine vegetation, while increasingly dramatic mountain vistas unfold around us.
Beyond Phedang, the trail ascends above the tree line through dwarf rhododendron and alpine meadows. On clear days, magnificent views begin to emerge of Khangchendzonga (8,586 m), the world's third-highest mountain, together with the elegant peak of Mount Pandim (6,691 m) and other snow-clad summits of the Sikkim Himalaya.
By afternoon, we reach Dzongri (4,100 m), a spectacular high-altitude campsite renowned for its sweeping Himalayan panoramas. Weather permitting, the surrounding landscape offers outstanding views of the peaks forming the great mountain divide between Sikkim and Nepal, including Kokthang (6,148 m), Rathong (6,679 m), Kabru South (7,318 m), and Kabru North (7,338 m).
The remainder of the day is reserved for rest and acclimatisation while enjoying one of the most breathtaking mountain settings in the Himalayas.

Before dawn, we set out on a rewarding ascent to Dzongri Top (approx. 4,250 m), one of the finest viewpoints in the Eastern Himalayas. The climb takes about 45–60 minutes and is well worth the effort, offering a breathtaking panorama of the world's third-highest mountain, Khangchendzonga (8,586 m), together with an impressive array of Himalayan peaks stretching across the borderlands of Sikkim and Nepal.
As the first light of day illuminates the horizon, the snow-clad summits gradually change colour from silver-grey to shades of gold and pink, creating one of the most memorable mountain spectacles in the Himalayas. On clear mornings, the panorama includes Pandim, Kabru North, Kabru South, Rathong, Kokthang, and numerous other peaks rising above the surrounding ridges. Prayer flags flutter in the crisp mountain air as we enjoy hot drinks and absorb the grandeur of the landscape.
After returning to camp for breakfast, we resume our trek. The trail traverses through alpine meadows and rolling high-altitude terrain adorned with seasonal wildflowers and dwarf rhododendrons, while magnificent mountain views accompany us throughout the day. Gradually descending from Dzongri, we pass through the scenic grazing grounds of Kokchurang, where we cross the Prek Chu River on a wooden bridge before continuing through forests and open valleys.
A gentle final ascent brings us to the expansive meadows of Thangshing (3,800 m), beautifully situated beneath the towering face of Mount Pandim. Surrounded by dramatic Himalayan scenery, Thangshing is one of the most picturesque campsites on the Goecha La route and offers excellent views of the surrounding peaks.

Today’s trek is deliberately short, allowing for gradual acclimatisation as we move deeper into the high-altitude wilderness of Khangchendzonga National Park. Leaving the broad meadows of Thangshing, we follow a gentle trail across alpine grasslands and glacial streams, surrounded by an increasingly dramatic mountain landscape.
As we gain altitude, spectacular views unfold of the Khangchendzonga massif, together with the towering peaks of Pandim, Kabru, and other summits of the Sikkim Himalaya. The terrain is characterised by sparse alpine vegetation, juniper shrubs, and wide-open valleys, creating a sense of remoteness and grandeur unique to the higher Himalayas.
After approximately 4–5 hours of leisurely trekking, we reach Lamuney (also spelled Lamune), a small campsite situated at around 4,100 metres. Nestled beneath soaring snow-clad peaks, Lamuney serves as the final camping ground before the approach to Goecha La. The site offers magnificent mountain views and an ideal setting for rest and acclimatisation before the following day's early start.
The afternoon is free to relax, enjoy the alpine scenery, and prepare for tomorrow’s excursion into the heart of the Khangchendzonga range.

Today is the highlight of our trek and an early start is essential. Before dawn, we enjoy hot tea or coffee and set out by headlamp towards the legendary Goecha La Viewpoint, one of the most spectacular mountain vantage points in the Himalayas. The trail climbs gradually across alpine meadows before ascending more steeply over glacial moraine and rocky terrain.
As daylight begins to illuminate the eastern sky, the magnificent peaks of the Khangchendzonga massif emerge from the darkness. Passing the pristine waters of Samiti Lake, we continue our ascent to the viewpoint, where an unforgettable panorama unfolds before us. Towering directly ahead are the immense south-eastern faces of Khangchendzonga (8,586 m), together with Pandim, Kabru North, Kabru South, Ratong, Talung, and numerous other snow-clad giants of the Sikkim Himalaya.
The viewpoint offers one of the closest and most dramatic perspectives of Khangchendzonga available to trekkers, making it a truly memorable experience. There is ample time to enjoy the scenery, take photographs, and savour hot drinks and snacks while surrounded by some of the most breathtaking mountain landscapes on Earth.
After descending past the shimmering waters of Samiti Lake, we return to Lamuney for a well-deserved brunch before continuing through the beautiful alpine meadows back to Thangshing. Traversing these high pastures in daylight reveals a landscape of exceptional beauty, framed by towering peaks and vast glacial valleys.
Arriving at Thangshing by late afternoon, the remainder of the day is free to relax and reflect on the unforgettable experiences of the trek's most rewarding day.

After breakfast, we begin our descent from the high alpine meadows of Thangshing, retracing our route through some of the most beautiful landscapes of Khangchendzonga National Park. With the major ascent behind us and the body now well acclimatised to the altitude, the day's trek is considerably more relaxed and enjoyable.
The trail leads back through the scenic valleys of Kokchurang and across the Prek Chu River, before climbing gently towards Dzongri and descending through forests of rhododendron, fir, and hemlock. Throughout the day, there are ample opportunities to enjoy the ever-changing mountain scenery and reflect on the remarkable journey into the heart of the Sikkim Himalaya.
By late afternoon, we arrive once again at Tshoka, the charming mountain settlement perched amidst dense forests and surrounded by magnificent Himalayan landscapes. The remainder of the day is free to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of this historic trekking outpost.

After an early breakfast, we begin our final descent through the magnificent forests of Khangchendzonga National Park, retracing our route via Bakhim and the Prek Chu Valley. The trail winds through dense rhododendron, oak, and magnolia forests, offering a final opportunity to enjoy the rich biodiversity and tranquil beauty of the Sikkim Himalaya.
Arriving in Yuksam around midday, we have lunch before visiting the historic Dubdi Monastery, the oldest monastery in Sikkim. Founded in 1701 by the revered Lama Lhatsun Namkha Jigme, Dubdi—meaning “The Hermit's Retreat”, is situated on a forested hillside overlooking Yuksam and offers a peaceful setting steeped in history and spirituality.
We also visit the nearby Norbugang Coronation Throne, where three revered lamas consecrated Phuntsog Namgyal as the first Chogyal (king) of Sikkim in 1642, marking the foundation of the Sikkimese kingdom.
Later, we drive to Pelling, one of Sikkim's most scenic hill stations, renowned for its spectacular views of the Khangchendzonga range. En route, we visit the sacred Khecheopalri Lake, revered by both Buddhists and Hindus as a wish-fulfilling lake. Nestled amidst dense forests, the lake is associated with a local belief that birds keep its surface remarkably free of fallen leaves.
Upon arrival in Pelling, we visit the historic Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest and most important monasteries of the Nyingma tradition in Sikkim, and explore the nearby Rabdentse Ruins, the remains of Sikkim's second capital from the 17th and 18th centuries.
